Dominic Carter strongly believes in Rotary’s mission of Service Above Self. He credits people who live these values—stepping forward to help others—with changing the course of his life and, ultimately, saving it.
Dominic grew up in the housing projects of the Bronx, raised by his grandmother. Dominic’s mother suffered from severe mental illness diagnosed with “Chronic Paranoid Schizophrenia,” and he had no father in his life. In fact no man has ever signed his birth certificate. Against enormous odds, his journey took him from a childhood of adversity all the way to the White House.
An award-winning talk show host and author with nearly 40 years in broadcasting, Dominic hosts two daily shows on 77 WABC Radio, weekdays from 3–4 PM and Midnight–1 AM.
Dominic has traveled the world on assignment and interviewed major figures including President Donald Trump, President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Hillary Clinton, Nelson Mandela, Caroline Kennedy, and Billionaire Michael Bloomberg. He has appeared on Face the Nation, Fox News, and CNN, moderated major political debates, and interviewed every New York City mayor since Ed Koch.
His memoir, “No Momma’s Boy,” chronicles his remarkable journey of overcoming childhood adversity, letting go of the past, and embracing the future.
A proud former Police Athletic League (PAL) kid, Dominic knows firsthand the power of caring adults who choose to serve others. For Dominic, Service Above Self is more than a Rotary motto—it is personal.

GILLESPIE CENTER COOKING / SERVING SCHEDULE
One of our club’s ongoing and rewarding commitments to community service is our commitment to serving dinner meals on the first Saturday of each month at the Gillespie Center here in Westport.
We are back to serving meals at the newly renovated Gillespie Center. We have the option to drop off prepared meals at 4:30 PM or to bring meals to serve in person at 4:40 PM (allow extra time if the meals need to be reheated). Meal service should include a main dish, side dish, vegetable, and dessert (no nuts or shellfish please). The number of meals to provide, currently 25, will be confirmed to you to in advance when it is your turn to serve.
If you choose to drop off prepared meals at 4:30 PM you have the option to prepare homemade meals, purchase prepared meals at the store/restaurant of your choice, or you can contact Fresh Market on the Post Road in Westport where you can purchase prepared meals (protein, two sides and cookies for $7 - $10 per meal). If you choose the Fresh Market option call Tory at 203 227-2910 on the Monday prior to your meal service to place your order. You can pay for the meals when you pick them up.
If you are unable to work on your assigned Saturday you will be responsible to call other Rotarians on the list to switch dates.
